What’s with the name?
Bonny Read is named after two fierce female pirates. Bucking tradition – and the belief that females bring bad luck to any ship – Anne Bonny and her best friend, Mary Read, sailed the high seas, leading raids and inspiring their crew.
Like their namesakes, the women behind Bonny Read like to think of themselves as trail blazers, helping small businesses punch above their weight. Anne and Mary inspire us to challenge the existing narrative and set off on a new course.
Who are we?
The women behind Bonny Read were not supposed to be CX specialists. They weren’t supposed to be marketers or chatbot designers or even content writers. They were supposed to be journalists.
Rita and Lia became fast friends while attending Canada’s most prestigious journalism program, where they learned how to write, research and drink coffee.
But then journalism died.
Lia was drawn towards marketing while Rita worked in journalism for five years before jumping ship to the up-and-coming chatbot industry.
Together, the friends have experience working for a variety of companies and industries, including but not limited to:
- Renewable energy (working with one of the top 10 manufacturers in solar energy electronics)
- The software industry (transportation and food retail)
- The country’s top teleco giants
- The banking industry
After 10 years of sifting through mediocre content in the B2B and B2C business world, the friends realized something. Good content is hard to come by. By creating Bonny Read, the two are hoping to change that.
With a combined 20 years of experience in marketing, writing and brand development, Rita and Lia know how to craft an excellent customer experience.
